How else?
I was just looking for a sheet of paper (containing a list of colleges at Cambridge made for me by Phyllis) that I had brought with me from home after Christmas. It wasn’t in the book that I thought I’d stuck it in, and I thought to myself, “It must have gotten here elsehow.”
Elsehow?
Where did that come from? Its meaning is clear (it must have gotten here in another way) but I don’t think I’ve ever used that word before. Though I recall seeing elsewhen before, elsehow is a word unknown to me, even though I just used it. Compare:
- elsewhere: 144,000,000 google hits
- elsewhen: 85,700 hits
- elsehow: 569 hits
Clearly, I’m not the first person it’s occured to, but it isn’t exactly a well-used word, either.
