Commencement
Ladies, gentlemen, and codfish: I have graduated.
It was rainy here in Cambridge, but I (and my big yellow galoshes) persevered, and I may now be addressed, if one so wishes, as Margaret Doreen Maloney, Artium Baccalaureus. There were many great moments today:
- Reverend Gomes, in discussing his annual duty to address the senior class, comparing himself to the fifth husband of Zsa Zsa Gabor on their wedding night: “I know what to do, I just want to make it interesting.”
- Marching into Tercentenary Theater with Paloma, Belle, Joe, Barusch, Ayo, and Jim.
- Sitting near G&S buddies Emma and Fran (and Fran’s roommate Molly!).
- The amazing roar of cheering when my friend and tutor Martin Bell gave the graduate English oration.
- The graduate English oration itself (one of my most favorite things of the day, and a speech to remember)
- Tromping across the stage to get my diploma in my big yellow galoshes and being greeted by each and every tutor with a hug.
I’m going to miss this place. My cousin Nina has suggested I do a “highlights of Harvard” post to cover the last four years. I think I will, once I get back from my travels. Till then, check out my Commencement photos, which you can reach by clicking on the one of me and my roommate Paloma that accompanies this post.
