Ryan Larkin

I just watched the excellent “Ryan,” an animated short film that won the Oscar for “Best Short Film (Animated).” It’s really incredible. The film is a computer animated documentary about Ryan Larkin, one of the most influential animators of the past thirty years. It takes advantage of its medium by showing physically the psychological damage of the people it portrays. I’d read articles about Larkin before, but this film does what articles and live-action film can’t: it shows you the inner workings of Larkin’s mind.

I want to see that movie bad. I saw an excerpt on the CBC and it blew my mind. The animated characters, all of them, are SO cool.

You should really find some way to see it—only ten minutes long, but it’s amazing. If I had known the NFB website was going to take it down so soon, I’d've… I dunno, done something.
