Demons

I just got off the phone with my mother, who had some very good things to say about what I need to be doing in the next semester. Most of it involves two major issues of mine (which are, incidentally, completely related): procrastination and focus. I’ve turned in lots of papers late this year, and my inability to study well is becoming more and more of a problem.

One possible part of a solution: moving off campus. I love living in Dunster, but it’s such a major distraction. Also, I’m so tired of living in one room. I’ve (effectively) been living in one room for seven years now, and it’s starting to grate on me. This is by no means a final decision or anything—I’ve only just thought of it, and I’m not sure if it’s really something helpful or if it’s just another cop-out.

Another thing that needs to happen: I need to find a place where I can study reliably. My room doesn’t work, the library doesn’t work, the dining hall doesn’t work. Any suggestions?

In other news, G&S elections were last night. To absolutely no one’s surprise, Melissa is president, and the other positions are as follows: Cambridge is Secretary, Casey is Treasurer, Emma is Public Relations, and Jess is Historian. I also ran for historian (the only contested position), and although not being elected was a not-so-great ending to a really awful (and really long) day, I am not bothered in the least that I’m not going to be historian, because Jess will do an excellent job. So the Exec Board is all women, and 3/5 cellists to boot!

So, my G&S obligations for the spring are to

  • produce Ida well
  • re-do the website
  • write (or co-write) a set designer’s handbook

I revised my story “Debts” for my final portfolio for my fiction class. I think it’s better than the first draft, certainly, but it still needs a lot of work.
