The FUTURE

I’ve decided that I want to pursue either an MFA in creative writing or in some sort of design (or both) after I graduate. This means two things.

  1. I need to start looking into programs.
  2. I need to decide whether or not I’m going to write a thesis.

Right now I’m leaning toward not writing a thesis. The main reason to write one would be for honors, and I think I’m pretty well assured of not getting honors already, given the way my grades have gone so far. Since the graduate programs I’m going to apply to will rely mainly on portfolios of work to determine admission, I’d rather focus on creative projects senior year instead of a thesis in Linguistics. The one Ling project that I could really see myself getting into would be a cartoon guide to Linguistics (much like Larry Gonick’s Cartoon History of the Universe series or Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics). I think it would be incredibly fun to come up with visual explanations of linguistic phenomena.

I’ve also decided that I’d like to spend this coming summer pursuing my writing and design projects. Getting money to do this would be ideal, but we’ll see what happens.

There! A plan!

I promise to update about Thanksgiving soon– I’ve started a post, but it was a long and interesting day, and I haven’t lately had time for long and interesting posts.
